Wordpress have recently released “wordpress μ” and I’ve musing over the best way that I can make use of this software for the Scheme. After having a chat with Sam Moorhead at lunch about life, the universe, the world and “Past from Above” (just had a sneak preview - it rocks); we had an Archimedes moment and have decided what we can do.
The Scheme is collecting all this data and needs to be able to analyse this on a regional/ county level. Well we’re going to start doing this, beginning with Roman coins using the blog software. Each county will be represented in the format:
www.finds.org.uk/wiltshire
This will allow access for Sam to write pieces for each individual county, the local FLO will be able to write about their county events, news and experiences etc. Following on from this, comments can be made and responses posted to analysis. Perhaps a dialogue can begin on these regions. Of course, I could produce this type of functionality with bespoke functions. However, what is the point in reinventing the flame? The blog software allows so much power to be unleashed and could empower more people to comment on their region’s archaeology. Now all I need to do is configure apache and DNS to allow for this to be used properly. Give me a while…..
