This is an excellent opportunity to receive training in all aspects of post excavation management within a commercial unit. Training will focus on the development, maintenance and management of the process that takes archaeological sites from excavation to publication. The successful candidate will work with our small Finds, Environmental, Illustration and Archive teams in order to facilitate an integrated and effective post excavation system. The development and curation of accessible and organised archaeological archives will be a major outcome of this training placement. The placement offers the opportunity to really understand the post excavation process and gain an insight into the diversity of information collated, keeping a close eye on the archaeological material and considering clients needs – all within the framework of MAP 2, MoRPHE and IFA guidelines.
There may also be an opportunity to use the experience gained in this placement towards a vocational qualification in archaeological practice.

We welcome applicants with some field experience and who have a relevant qualification (or equivalent experience); some experience of commercial archaeology would be useful (even if limited). Computing experience and some experience in using databases is essential, as is a commitment to learning and improving. The Bursary Holder will be based in the Finds Laboratory within Birmingham Archaeology, University of Birmingham, Birmingham. IFA is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 13th December 2007
Interviews will be held on: Thursday 10th January 2008
