Portable Antiquities or "Finds"

Square Headed brooch from Hampshire Archaeological objects discovered by members of the public are commonly referred to as 'finds', or sometimes as 'small finds' or 'portable antiquities'.

In this part of the website you can search the finds database, with details of over 140,000 finds recorded since the Scheme began.

The finds guide provides useful information on the commonest types of finds discovered by metal detector users and others.

Within the showcase section you can look at some of the many interesting and unusual find that have been recorded so far by the Scheme's regional Finds Liaison Officers.
