Findspot cleanup
If you’ve been playing with the Index and mapping out some of the coins; you might have noticed that some of these are currently in the sea. This is demonstrated by this snapshot from a KML layer imported into Google Earth.
This is quite an easy thing to rectify, and work has started now to get these records back onto dry land. This leads onto a secondary exercise where upon we have to check that all findspots are actually in their correct county. This is also going to be followed up by a concordance exercise with the new data being added from the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. Once duplicates have been weeded out, the CCI will be enhanced by several thousand more records and before long, you might evensee the Iron Age coins from the famous Leicestershire hoard added.
